Judging the Judges 2010 - The Supremes

The RJ's Judging the Judges poll results are out. It seems that attorneys feel everyone on our highest court is a keeper ... well, almost everyone. Here's how the numbers brake down for the High Court:
  • Justice Michael Cherry: 74% would retain
  • Justice Michael Douglas: 72% would retain
  • Justice Mark Gibbons: 85% would retain
  • Justice James Hardesty: 73% would retain
  • Justice Ron Parraguire: 82% would retain
  • Justice Kristina Pickering: 65% would retain
  • Justice Nancy Saitta: 50% would retain
One (maybe two) of these things is not like the others ... why? Let us know your thoughts on the results of the Supreme's poll in the comments. We'll be posting about the remaining polls throughout the week.

In general I agree with these ratings, except that Pickering is way better, and Saitta is way worse.

I suspect that Saitta's rating may be a holdover from her reign on the EDC bench. She not improved any, but is a crap judge to begin with.

Old dog, new tricks and all that.

I don't understand why Parraguirre is so high. He asks very few questions at oral argument and his opinions are few and far between - and very few of those are the work of an intellectual giant. For that matter, I don't believe that anyone thinks this group of 7 is the best and brightest of Nevada lawyers. I wish we could scrap them whole lot.

Who is hottest: (a) Sonia Sotomayor, (b) Ruth Bader Ginsburg, (c) Elena Kagan, or (d) Super Saver...the 2010 Kentucky Derby victor?

Pickering is a an intellectual giant - at least by Nevada standards.

I agree almost accross the board except for the high ratings of pro-crime jurists NSCJ Cherry and DCJ Baby Bell.
I think the polls must have been loaded by defense attorneys.
Anyone in the PD's office want to fess up to administrative mandates?

"break"

Not "brake"

More brilliance.

10:43,

If you think every lawyer and judge in Nevada is a moron, then pack your bags and get the f out. Go grace some other state with your keen legal mind.

11:05 - if the polls were loaded by criminal defense attorneys, Parraguire would not be at the top of the list for the Supremes and there would be a better showing by Miley, Silver and Bennett-Haron as they seem to be hated by the D.A.'s, but are okay to most defense attorneys.

11:57 AM - Are you serious? Some poster compliments Pickering and your response to tell the poster to get lost. Are you Stephy Booby Miley?

"pro-crime jurists" How do you expect to be accorded ANY respect when you use a phrase like that? How can you say that any member of the judiciary, or the bar for that matter, carries the cudgel for crime? So you had a couple of bad experiences....STEP UP YOUR GAME ASSHAT!!

Hey 11:47. Blah! GTFO! Blah! It's called criticism. People can live and work here and still be critical. Get used to it, baby.

When did WWL become a haven for Blackstone Lawyers?

4:32 PM,

The same time it became a haven for making references I don't understand? I'm Ron Burgundy?

Until a hotter candidate comes along, I am all for Miley for Supreme Court. If I get screwed too badly on something with a hotter, albeit less intellectual SC, I'll have the firm's lobbyist change the law before the next go-round. Or better yet, I'll have him change the law between the DC and the SC.

Good for the Review Journal. They actually put something good out for once - didn't think they had it in them. They cover up so much as it is. I looked up the Miley assault issue she had last year at the soccer field and it is gone. They only had the article where the DA dropped it and they blamed the mom who charged her.

We need to get these judges off the bench and find a way to elect better ones.

Miley and the rest of the group need to find new employment.
